Biggie Smalls belongs to those few people who know from the start where they belong. The guy whose real name is Christopher George Latore Wallace was born on the 21st of May 21, 1972 to give the world much more than a little less than 25 years of his own life. Biggie Smalls has become a shooting star who managed to change the world around him for good.
Christopher was an ordinary child of simple parents – the only son and hope of a humble preschool teacher Voletta Wallace and a plain welder George Lator coming from Jamaica. Future Biggie Smalls has always been a smart guy but as any genuine Brooklyner he did not find toiling over books too exciting. As a teen Wallace began rapping and realized it was the only thing that gave him the thrill and enjoyment he wanted.
At the age of 17 Wallace got involved into crime and was sentenced to 5 year’s probation but failed and in 1990 was put under arrest. The following year brought him another arrest and 9 months in prison for dealing crack cocaine. Well, Biggie Smalls did not enjoy a perfect life. His life was real through and through as it is – painful, dirty but absolutely exciting!
After being released from prison Wallace switched from performing with local groups to something more substantial – he made his first demo tape under the name of Biggie Smalls having no ambition to become famous overnight. Surprisingly, the recording was promoted by a New York DJ Mister Cee and in March 1992 Biggie Smalls was invited to produce a professional recording. The ball started rolling…
During the 5 short years he had to live before four shots made by an unknown murderer hit his chest and stopped his heart forever Biggie Smalls has become a central figure in the East Coast hip-hop culture and a real idol for thousands of young people in the world. Years after his death change nothing – Biggie Smalls or The Notorious B.I.G. is just as urgent and welcome as ever.
